ОАО «Алттранс» ведет свою историю с 1946 года. Изначально предприятие представляло собой электромонтажную мастерскую, ставшую впоследствии Барнаульским электромеханическим заводом. В 1993 году предприятие было реорганизовано и переименовано в Открытое акционерное общество «Алтайский трансформаторный завод» (ОАО «Алттранс»).

Основной вид деятельности ОАО «Алттранс» — производство электротехнической продукции: силовых (распределительных) масляных трансформаторов и комплектных трансформаторных подстанций мощностью от 25 до 1250 кВА. Более ста тысяч трансформаторов и десяти тысяч комплектных трансформаторных подстанций, выпущенных предприятием за последние годы, успешно работают в России и ближнем зарубежье.
